The watch is a companion: your signed-in phone handles new messages and sending.
This update fixes microphone handover during camera changes, displays shared screens, adds movable and resizable calls, readable call history, noise suppression controls, chat menus, People search, message font size, original sounds and tabbed settings. Android gets decrypted message previews and incoming-call Answer/Decline actions.
Install the matching server update for all new admin and background browser alert features. Install Phone 1.2.0 over your current app; do not uninstall or clear data. Watch 1.1.0 remains compatible. Real Edge video and Android background behavior still need device verification.
The phone update adds one-to-one voice and video calls targeting up to 1080p, soundboards, private nicknames, expanded emoji tools, storage sorting and notification improvements. Call quality depends on devices and connectivity. The watch update adds companion controls; calls run on the paired phone.
Updating? Install over your existing app. Do not uninstall or clear app data. Both APKs use the existing signing identity.
Connected mode keeps the phone’s chat engine available and uses battery. Android restrictions, force-stop or lost connectivity can still delay messages; reopen the app after a force-stop.
Chat and file content use end-to-end encryption. The server still handles account IDs, membership, group details, reactions and routing metadata. Choose whether notification previews show message content.
Your approved watch receives readable recent messages and saves them encrypted on the watch. Your password, server access token and Matrix message keys stay on the phone. Disconnect a watch in phone Settings to revoke its access; an offline watch can keep its saved chats until it reconnects or you clear them on the watch.
Use the same account as Message Web. New encrypted devices need history recovery: complete recovery on your original signed-in device before relying on the new app. An administrator password reset alone cannot unlock old encrypted history. Keep a working signed-in device while setting up another.
Choose the latest APK above and install it over the existing app. Keep your app data. Install the Phone APK on the phone and the Watch APK on the watch. Both apps share a signing identity so they can communicate. Older versions and release notes stay available in the selectors and on GitHub.
Saved recent chats remain readable offline and replies can wait in the encrypted outbox. Receiving new messages and sending replies require the approved, signed-in phone. The watch does not have its own server login.
Phone 1.2.0 and Watch 1.1.0 are previews. Automated web and Android checks pass; phone/watch pairing and real voice/video calls still need physical device testing.
