Click the toolbar icon for your compact Continue listening player. Open Book Finder when you want to find a book and compare releases. Both use Tempo Web’s existing connections, in one Chrome extension.

ONE ICON. TWO VIEWS.
Your player stays small.
Normal click → player
The familiar 350px emerald-and-mint player. Play/pause, 30-second skips, chapter scrub and speed.
Find in Tempo → search
Highlight a title and use Find in Tempo, or click Find books in the player. Book Finder opens in its larger 560×590px view.
Choose your release
Match the book, compare interactive results, refine the search title, sort/filter releases and confirm the one you want.
Keep listening
Switch views while audio continues. You can return to Player while a slow indexer search runs.
Install Tempo Companion from the Chrome Web Store, then connect through Tempo Web in the same Chrome profile. Book Finder uses your existing interactive-search permissions.
Open Chrome’s puzzle-piece Extensions menu and pin the extension.
Store installations receive updates automatically. No ZIP extraction or Developer mode is needed.
Already installed a manual ZIP version? Stop playback, then disable or remove the unpacked Companion and any old separate Book Finder before using the Store version. Your Tempo Web connections remain available in the same Chrome profile.
Download Tempo Companion 1.1.0. In Windows, right-click the ZIP and choose Extract All. The Tempo-Chrome folder contains manifest.json.
Already using the small Tempo player? Stop playback, then replace the contents of your existing installed Tempo-Chrome folder with these files. Keep the folder path the same. At chrome://extensions, click Reload on Tempo.
Previously installed the separate Book Finder? Disable or remove that older extension after installing Companion so you have one Find in Tempo menu item. Your saved Tempo Web sign-ins are separate from the extensions.
02 / LOAD & PIN
For a new installation
chrome://extensions
Paste that address into Chrome’s address bar and press Enter.
Turn on Developer mode.
Click Load unpacked and select the extracted Tempo-Chrome folder containing manifest.json.
In Chrome’s puzzle-piece Extensions menu, pin Tempo Companion.
Keep the installed folder somewhere permanent. Manual-download updates use the same replace-and-reload process.
03 / USE YOUR TEMPO CONNECTIONS
Sign in once, inside Tempo Web
Open Tempo Web in the same Chrome profile and refresh it after installing or updating Companion. Use your usual Audiobookshelf sign-in for the player and Tempo’s existing ReadMeABook connection for Book Finder.
Enable Remember login for each connection if you want to use it with the visible Web tab closed. Otherwise keep the relevant connected Web tab open. The extension has no separate login.
Use tempo.hasbreo.com. A saved login on another hostname or in another Chrome profile is not shared. Book Finder requires interactive-search permission on your connected account.
04 / PLAY OR FIND
A small player by default.
Click the pinned icon to open your current playing book, or your most recent unfinished Continue listening book. Click outside the popup or press Escape to close it; audio continues while Chrome runs.
Click Find books to switch to Book Finder. Or highlight a title on an ordinary webpage and right-click Find in Tempo to open the larger search view directly. If Chrome can’t open it automatically, click the pinned icon to use the pending selection.
Book matches and release results both stay in Tempo’s popup. Use the Player button to shrink back to the player. Your next normal toolbar click opens the small player again.
05 / CHOOSE THE RELEASE
You pick the download.
Choose the correct book, then compare full release titles, formats, sizes, seeders, indexers and reported chapter information. Expand Full release details for more. Sort or filter results, or edit Release search title and choose Search again.
Click Get this release, review it, then Confirm download. Searching alone doesn’t create a download request. Your server’s existing processing and import settings apply. Use Refresh status to check the accepted request.
No. The small player and larger Book Finder use one shared background Tempo Web connection. A slow search doesn’t block player commands, and changing views doesn’t close that connection.
What happens when I close Chrome?
Audio stops. A download already accepted by your server continues there. Search results remain while the connection is alive; an idle, nonplaying connection can close after about ten minutes after using Finder, or about 30 seconds for player-only use. Active audio and searches protect it.
What if sending a download times out?
The server may have accepted it even if its reply was lost. Check server downloads in Tempo Web before retrying. Download requests are never automatically retried. Existing eligible requests and blocked/available releases use your server’s existing rules.
What data and permissions does it use?
Only tempo.hasbreo.com access to connect Tempo Web; a context menu for selected text; offscreen support for the shared Web connection; and local/session storage for continuation, search and display state. Other webpages aren’t scanned. HTTPS artwork can load without a referring page URL. Read the privacy policy.
Can the glass popup blur the webpage underneath?
It keeps Tempo’s glass-style appearance. Chrome’s native toolbar popup has its own surface and cannot blur the actual webpage underneath.
What if it can’t connect?
Open and refresh Tempo Web, check that its player and interactive book search work, and confirm you’re in the same Chrome profile. Enable remembered sign-in for closed-tab use. Account settings and playback-position conflicts are handled in Tempo Web.
